Incident: Missing Outfall Buoy

At 13.29hrs on the Thursday 5th March, our volunteers were contacted by His Majesty’s Coastguard (HMCG) for a repeated request to locate a missing buoy belonging to Trinity House. They were not sure whether the buoy was off station or not transmitting. Our watchkeepers were asked to locate the buoy.

Using our optics and critically our CCTV cameras which cover Sandy Bay, the team scanned the area. By using the existing latitude/longitude co-ordinates, they were able to plot the area of the last transmission and use that information to search the area needed. Also using their new electronic charts, they were able to work out a bearing from the camera.

At 13.38hrs the Range Safety Boat (RSB), DMS Cerne was contacted by HMCG on Ch.16 to help with the search.

At 13.45hrs the buoy was located by both our cameras and the RSB and NCI were stood down.
