Concerns are growing for a missing sailor last spotted in Plymouth Sound nearly a month ago. Police said Guy Nelson, aged 57, was last seen “in or around” the Drake’s Island on Monday, September 8.
He has not been seen since and there have been no sightings of his boat, named Swallow. Mr Nelson, from Leamington Spa, in Warwickshire, had been sailing around the coast of Devon and Cornwall.
It is believed he aimed to sail from Plymouth along the coast but there has been no trace of him for weeks. Mr Nelson had been in St Dominick in south east Cornwall, where he was photographed on Friday, September 5 - three days before he was last seen.
Devon and Cornwall Police last week put out an appeal for information and have today renewed it, releasing fresh pictures of Mr Nelson and his “relatively small” boat. A police spokesperson said: “We continue to be concerned for the welfare of Mr Nelson and are issuing a more recent picture of him. He has no known links to Devon and Cornwall other than sailing in the area.”
Mr Nelson is described as a white man, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build, with short curly brown hair and brown eyes. He usually wears glasses, a black T-shirt and jeans.
Anybody who has seen Mr Nelson or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call 999 quoting log 852 of September 17
